Chapter 5 reading

Posted on: March 2, 2010

In chapter five I liked the part about the different types of news releases.

There are announcements, spot announcements, reaction releases, bad news and local news. The part on bad news caught my attention. Often times companies try to suppress rumors, but in the end it comes out, and it makes it worse.

The parts of traditional news release were also helpful when writing my first press release. There is always a letterhead, contacts, headline, dateline, lead paragraph and a body of text. I’ve always heard of a dateline, but this part explained it clearly and was very beneficial.

The third part that interested me were the rules for writing a news release.  It was good to know not to use generic phrases. It was also helpful advice to use creative way to get people to read your release.
