Chapter 10 reading notes

Posted on: April 7, 2010

Chapter ten discussed the different ways to get your news to the media.

A good way to find media personnel who are interested in your news is to use a tip sheet. A tip sheet is a weekly newsletter that reports on recent changes in new personnel and their new assignments, how to contact them, and what kinds of materials they are looking for.

One of the ways reporters distribute information is through email. Email is the oldest feature that the internet has. It is a major form of communication among public relations writers, clients, and journalists. When you compose an email it is important to write a subject line with keywords that are subject to the message inside. It is also wise to include important contact information.

As old fashioned as it seemed people still use mail to distriute their news.  It is commonly reffered to as snail mail. Newrooms are constantly getting mail for news releases, CDs, and media kids. For many weeklies that are in small towns, mail is just fine, because they don’t have good quality internet.

This information is from my book: Public Relations Writing and Media Techniques
